My meals: 100%FOOD
When I got to BrooksCamp in Deadhorse, Prudhoe Bay; I found waiting for a parcel from 100% FOOD with two bags of 3.33Kg of product.

100%FOOD is committed to give me their ready meals for the duration of the trip and to modify the formula according to my needs. The new formulation, after being tested in the field (by me), could make a new line of product – I hope they put my name on it!
The initial idea was to use 100%FOOD for one daily meal, breakfast for example. After some practical considerations I decided to feed me almost exclusively with 100%FOOD, these are some of the reasons:
- cook food attracts wild animals: bears and mooses the most dangerous but also wolves and foxes while non-hazardous may still be carriers of rabies so avoiding attracting them is key.
- pedalling 12 to 15 hours a day and having to spend at least a couple of hours between pitching and disassemble tent, mattress, sleeping bag, loading and unloading of the bike, leave no extra time to start cooking with a camp stove and consecutive pot and cutlery cleaning.
- challenging weather conditions (constant rain, snow, freezing temperatures).
So I decided that as long as I’m “bear country”, ie Alaska and Canada, and until I have left the winter behind, almost all my meals will be 100% FOOD. I leave room for cereal bars, ten almonds a day, and when I pass for civilized places some fruit / vegetables – happens rarely!
A meal with 100% FOOD prepares in a couple of minutes. You take a water bottle, you put the desired amount of product based on the calorie you want to ingest (I use 5 to 8 tablespoons) and simply add enough water. Shake to emulsify the mixture. A minute or two, and the meal is ready to be drunk. The flavours that I have received are two: vanilla and chocolate.
The ingredients of 100% FOOD provide a variety of nutrients that covers the daily requirement of our body according to the calories you want to intake. The ingredients are:
- hemp seeds
- organic golden flaxseed
- rice flour
- sesame seeds
- non-GMO soy protein
- soy lecithin
- dextrose
- mix of vitamins and minerals
- vanilla or chocolate
